Support your local economy, community and environment

Thursday 18th February 11am

If you like the independent shops and restaurants in our community then use them - as they won’t survive if we don’t support them!

Here's how supporting local businesses can benefit your economy, community and environment

Economy

Compared to big businesses, a larger share of local businesses money stays in the local economy. Wages are paid to local people, businesses use local produce and neighbouring businesses get more trade.

Community

Independent shops give the town personality and are more likely to support local events and groups which creates vibrant areas with a sense of community. It can even boost house prices.

Environment

Shopping local is also the more ethical choice as it's a lot closer to travel to. Whereas the bigger shops leave a big carbon footprint by importing products from all around the world. Smaller shops sell more seasonal food with shorter journeys and tend to use less packaging.
